Hope In Our City has a variety of volunteer needs with at-risk youth and families - especially in the areas of sports, education and leadership - with varying degrees of commitment. We have opportunities for families with children, businesses, small groups, and individuals.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

Friday Recess

What: A time of free-play and relationship building with youth and families in Sun Valley. Each week varies, but there’s usually a craft, some basketball, foursquare, football, kickball, and some crazy games of tag on the playground. Volunteers are welcome to bring their families.  

When: Every Friday from 3:30 to 5:00 pm

Volunteer Commitment: Recess volunteers commit weekly, twice a month, or monthly. Recess is appropriate for one-off volunteers, families with children, and small groups.

 

Youth Leadership Program

What: Invest deeply into a group of middle or high school students, speaking into the pillars of character, citizenship, education, and economics. Ideal for committed volunteers with a lot of grit.

When: Every Tuesday, from 5:15 to 6:30 pm (Middle School). or from 6:15 to 7:30 pm (High School).

Volunteer Commitment: Weekly. We’re interviewing new volunteers to start in Spring 2018 and commit for the school year.

 

Homework Hour

What: Help provide a safe and fun place for kids to hang out after school, do homework, and get a meal if they’re hungry.

When: Various times depending on the student and volunteer's schedule.

Volunteer Commitment: Volunteers can serve multiple times a week or as little as once a week.

 

Women’s Conversation Group

What: Meet weekly with a group of women in Sun Valley to build friendships and create community. Ideal for volunteer women committed to building long-term cross-cultural friendships.

When: Every Tuesday, from 10:00 to 11:30 am

Volunteer Commitment: Weekly. We’re interviewing new volunteers to start in Spring 2018 and commit for the school year.

 

ESL Class

What: Meet once a week with a group of English language learners in Sun Valley to build friendships, create community, and help others become more comfortable with written and spoken English. We're recruiting volunteer ESL Teachers (certified) and Teacher's Assistants (no ESL experience required).

When: Every Wednesday, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Volunteer Commitment: Weekly. We're interviewing new volunteers to start in immediately and commit for the school year.

 

Sewing Class

What: Train women and men to improve their sewing skills. Ideal for volunteers with sewing and craft skills.

When: Every Friday, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

Volunteer Commitment: Weekly. We’re interviewing new volunteers to start in immediately and commit for the school year.

 

Administrative Support

What: Help track and database the impact we are making in the lives of our neighbors and volunteers. Ideal for organized volunteers who don’t mind sitting still in front of a computer.

When: Flexible.

Volunteer Commitment: As needed, based on how much we need databased.
